Lesson 15
What are micro-partitions, and how do they differ from traditional database partitions_
In Snowflake, micro-partitions are small, automatically managed units of data storage (around 16 MB compressed) created when data is loaded into tables. Unlike traditional database partitions that require manual partition key management, Snowflake automatically organizes and optimizes micro-partitions using metadata, enabling faster query pruning, better performance, and simpler maintenance without manual tuning.
