Active vs Inactive Relationships in Power BI: How to Use Inactive Relationships in Measures
In Microsoft Power BI, an active relationship is the default relationship used automatically for filtering between tables, while an inactive relationship exists in the model but does not participate in filtering unless explicitly activated. Inactive relationships are commonly used in measures with the USERELATIONSHIP() DAX function to switch context temporarily, such as analyzing sales by Order Date versus Ship Date using the same date table.
