Star Schema vs Snowflake Schema: What’s the Difference in Data Modeling?
A star schema keeps dimension tables directly connected to a central fact table in a simple denormalized structure, while a snowflake schema further normalizes dimension tables into additional sub-dimensions. In Microsoft Power BI, star schemas are generally preferred because they provide faster query performance, simpler relationships, and easier report development compared to the more complex snowflake design.
