Power Query vs DAX in Power BI: When Should You Use Each?
Use Power Query when the task is about cleaning, transforming, or combining data before loading into the model. Examples: removing duplicates, merging tables, changing data types, splitting columns. Use DAX when the task is about calculations and analysis after data is loaded into the model. Examples: measures, KPIs, running totals, calculated columns, and dynamic filtering in reports.
