VACUUM with 0-Hour Retention: Why Delta Lake Time Travel Suddenly Broke
In Databricks Delta Lake, running VACUUM with 0 hour retention permanently deletes old Parquet data files immediately, including files needed for historical table versions. Although the transaction log may still contain metadata about previous versions, the underlying data files are gone, so time travel, rollback, and historical queries fail because Delta can no longer reconstruct older table states.
